Hell’s Gate

Hell’s Gate is located in the hinterland of Lake Naivasha about 90 km from Nairobi. It is a unique part of the Great Rift Valley, and it derives its name from the intense geothermal activity within its boundaries. The park boasts of varied topography and diverse geological landscapes. It is well known for its natural geysers, eagle and vulture breeding grounds.
The main attraction of the park includes the towering cliffs, water-gouged ravines, stark rock towers, scrub-clad volcanoes and belching plumes of geothermal steam, which makes it one of the most distinctive Parks in Africa. Apart from the varied landscapes it also has diverse wildlife and bird species. Coke’s hartebeest Maasai giraffes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, buffaloes, elands, plains zebras, grants and Thompson’s gazelles, reedbucks, impalas are found in the park.
Hell’s Gate is an ideal site for a day trip from Nairobi as the visitors can not only explore the wilderness of the area but also can enjoy mountain biking, rock climbing and take a natural spa.

Day 1 Nairobi – Hell’s Gate

After breakfast depart from our Nairobi for a journey south along the floor of the Great Rift valley to Hell’s Gate National Park

Hell’s Gate National Park is a tiny park located between Lake Naivasha and Longonot and Suswa volcanoes and it is an ideal venue for a weekend retreat far from the urban life of Nairobi. The park provides a variety of wildlife, unusual flora and many species of birds and is one of the only two Kenyan Parks where climbing,

walking and biking are allowed. Animals seen here include Bushbucks, Dikdiks, Gazelles, Gnus, Hartebeests, Impalas, Klipspringers, Buffaloes, Hyraxes, Zebras, Hyenas, Jackals, Mongooses, Baboons, Monkeys and Porcupines amongst others

The park has historically been an important home for the rare lammergeyer vultures. over 103 species of birds have been recorded in this park, including vultures, Verreaux’s Eagles
